In 2019, a massive explosion at a nuclear power plant occurred near the Johnston Middle Aquarium. There, multiple narwhals received a non-lethal dose of radiation, altering their DNA and giving them incredible knowledge over robotics. After learning about FTC, they all decided to pool their knowledge of robotics and prepare to compete in the FTC competitions.
Later, on October 17th, 2019, they were ready to compete. Amazingly, through all their hardships, we’re proud to say they were able to get all the way to State Championships on their very first year.
In 2020, due to the pandemic, they had to compete against other teams virtually. At Coach Scott’s house, a field was set up in an unused room. In order to stay safe and healthy, they met only in small groups and via Zoom. Yet again, they made it all the way to the State Competitions.
In 2021, a founding member and their coach moved away. They also gained some members that year, with one of the parents stepping up to coach the team. This was the only year they were unable to reach State Competitions.
In 2022, they got to state yet again, and gained a few new members to their pod.
